Welding Death - a warning on lung health

Over time, welders lung health is compromised slowly by breathing in fine metal particlesa nd strong gases from the fusion of metals and off-gasing.

Be vigalent and think about wearing a closed respirator filtration system air filtration system, while you weld to keep your lung health high. Lungs are very vulnerable in general.

Here is an article about a young welders death that sucked in the wrong bacteria and had bad lungs. It killed him fast.

"He was a welder, Dr. Musser noted, and welders are unusually susceptible to lung infections, perhaps because their lungs are chronically irritated by fine metal particles. So his fatal illness was most likely due to a confluence of events: welding, living in a rural area where the bacteria lived in the soil and happening to breathe in this toxin-containing species of bacteria."

Scrap Treasure Chest-A scavenger's dream

Today I went to a warehouse for Habitat for Humanities. It was a literal treasure chest. Everything from Home Depot, slightly used for scrap yard prices.
Some good metal scrap too, especially on heavy duty bolts, nuts, and washers.Have at it.

Next stop, scrap yards.

NOMMA holds an annual international competition for Best Design of the Year. The entries are truly stunning in scale, scope and creativity. Whole fabricating shops will create projects just for this competition to be crown the " King of Metal". NOMMA publishes a quarterly magazine with special trade news from around the world. If you can get your hands on an old copy of the magazine or get a subscription you will be blown away. The design competiton isses are the best.
They hold classes for members all over the country and have an annual convention as well.
